I’ll confess that I haven’t gotten this year’s edition, so I’m only going on what fellow soccer/football video game dorks have told me. To paraphrase, this is what it sounds like to me:

It’s official; FIFA finally buried PES. EA gave Konami a Texas Funeral and didn’t even leave flowers. It’s a shame, and at the same time, it was inevitable. Realistically, Konami wasn’t going to be able to keep pace, and the PES crew lost its lead in the generation hop when people jumped ship on them because it wasn’t all purdy and HD. EA can afford to have people working on developments for the next generation, and Konami has to focus on the here and now.

There’s no doubt who the better soccer-gaming minds were. Seabass and his crew torched the EA crew for about three years, but a little competition is always going to improve the product. We can thank Seabass for the vast improvements in FIFA just as much as we can thank EA. Konami lit a fire underneath the FIFA branch, but they forgot to clean up all of the wood kindling and close the fire off with a rock circle.

Well, the graphics are still pretty good anyway.

Basically, the wallet that runs only slightly deeper than any of ours is not enough to compete with the monopoly that is EA. Even before FIFA was a good game, they had a religious following. Now that FIFA is actually worthwhile, the game is over.

I will confess that I haven’t touched PES 2010 or even thought about it until just now. Let’s not KO the competition before we know for sure.

The moment is upon us (screw you Europeans who have already gotten the game )…excited?

Did anyone take the time to have a look at the PES Demo? Will anyone be buying the final copy? I’m torn…sway me one way or the other.

The demo is hither and yon. XBox Live, PS3 online…you name it. The problem is that this is my last semester, and I’m taking 18 credits, so I don’t have time to sit down and examine right now. Share your thoughts. If you want to write up a semi-review, I will edit it into the post, or you can just leave your reactions. Whatever you choose, help a fellow gamer here.

…The end of FIFA 09 and the beginning of FIFA 10.

FIFA 10 demos have been reported to be invading computers and consoles near you, depending on your country of residence. They are available over the respective console networks on 10.9 in Europe and 9.17 in the U.S. of A. As far as downloads go, I have a few links to share (not that you can’t google “FIFA 10 Demo” and find them yourselves).

I’m going to wait until the 17th. I don’t need more space taken up on my laptop. Let me know if some of the links are dead, so I can dispose of them accordingly.
