PES Demo: Anyone?

By: Sneakers O'Toole | September 30th, 2009

Did anyone take the time to have a look at the PES Demo? Will anyone be buying the final copy? I’m torn…sway me one way or the other.

I think that this year I’m still sticking to Fifa, despite all the work Konami has put in. With PES, it all started with the funky menu (PES 2009), then I found out that they’ve only got a licence for a few teams, while the rest are called by their nicknames (EPL) :> I know you can edit all that on PC, but that’s PC, which my 360 is not. Then again, the menu and the team names don’t make a game, so it all comes down to gameplay. Having played Fifa for the last few years, I’ve seemingly got so used to it, that I began wondering why people even bother buying PES. Some said it’s less of an arcade, while some were just looking for an alternative to EA’s product. Got to admit, I didn’t force myself to dig deep, to look what PES was offering. I’ve put the disc in the tray, played a match, and went back to Blockbusters to see if they had a copy of Fifa 09 :>
This time around, I’ve downloaded both demos, and I’ll try to dedicate more time to PES, because Fifa (as usual) seemed all too familiar.
But damn, Konami did put some magic into the cut-scenes..

Graphics are incredible to be honest. Go into replay and watch. Gameplay seems slow but ball dynamics are back to the old ones. The demo was worse then the final version last year so I think the final one will be better. Step in the right direction. I think its one minor tweak from being back to the good old days. That tweak being gameplay speed and response time… Im definitely buying it.

FIFA has impressed me more than any other FIFA but its still not on the level that the old PES games once were…

I’d have downloaded the PES demo by now if it wasn’t for my cursed download cap…

I downloaded it (PC version) and I can’t compare it to FIFA but I can compare it to last year’s version.

Gameplay wise, it’s similar (duh) but the game is sugar coated with superior graphics and the players run less cartoony, in other words, more realistically. There’s obviously more of a tactical aspect with all those player ability things, which is very intriguing. The team tactic option system is better than having an obscure option in the pre-game screen like in 09. You are feel more involved.

Overall, I really like the feel of the game. It’s a much bigger step from the previous game than 08 to 09.

    Got FIFA 10 on PS3
It is awesome, definatly worth the money. Ive only played 6 matches but its great.
Its a game for people that know how to play opposed to last one which people just put C.Ron up front an win that way, this one requires more than speed.
    The movement is crazy

Thank you for making me jealous, Marcus. I take it that you are from somewhere other than the U.S. of A. that my laptop is telling me you’re from?

I’ve been in love with FIFA for the first few months every year, but once I get tired of the same results and predictability, I get over PES’s many shortcomings and play it because of how unpredictable it is.
